Delaware is a small state on the Atlantic seaboard, one of the original thirteen colonies whose location off the main transportation routes has limited its importance. Sometimes called the second American war for independence, the War of 1812 was the last battle against foreign troops on American soil. American Civil War lasted from the bombardment of Fort Sumter in 1861 to the surrender of the Confederacy in 1865.
